Day 31 Hitterdal, MN-Itasca State Park, MN
8/31/16
Jo: Day 31 Left Hitterdal, MN, and stumbled across a terrific fresh produce shack on a farm owned by Doris and Gene (their son lives in Gig Harbor, WA) so we stocked up on fresh picked corn, cherry tomatoes, spicy radishes, cucumbers, homemade refrigerator pickles, stewed tomatoes, choke cherry jam, and something special for Alan. Drove down the main drag of Park Rapids (a busy tourist city with two lanes of parking right down the middle of the street with parking along the side...crazy). Tonight we have a lake view camp site in Itasca State Park with a beautiful sunset. Not many mosquitoes, so we were able to enjoy or dinner outside on the picnic table. Yay!
Kevin: Day 31, Wednesday. Hitterdal, MN to Itasca State Park, Minnesota. 80miles, about 2,000 elevation gain. Great day of riding-rolling hills and perfect 70'. A quick stop in the morning in Calloway at the local tavern(the only place open in the town of 234) where we had coffee, which was free! Another snack stop in Richwood at the general store, where you could buy the usual food you'd expect at a convenience store, car batteries, and live bait among other things. A lunch stop at the Cracking Ice Lake lodge, and a Gatorade stop at The Two Inlets store. Tonight we are camping at on the shores of Lake Itasca, headwaters of the Mississippi River. BTW, the locals pronounce it "Eye-Taska". So far the mosquitos have been well behaved. We will see how the evening goes.
