Day 41 Hayward, WI-Glidden, WI

Day 41 (afternoon): Copper Falls State Park, WI.  Wisconsin state law prohibits pets on state park trails, so poor Bob had to wait in the van while Janut and I walked the 1.7 mile loop trail.  It was worth the $11 park fee.  The Bad River gets its copper color from tannin, a natural dye that results when tamarack, white cedar and other trees decay in northern bigs. Bob was happy to see us after our walk on the Copper Falls State Park "Doughboy" trail.  We drove through the cute town of Mellen and ended the day in Glidden, WI, just in time for dinner.  When we arrived at Marion Park, Kevin escorted us to our free camp site ... The sign says "no pets allowed", so Bob's walks are "under the radar". Jo

Day 40: The day began with a transaction from Jo's ATM in Doolittle Park, Birchwood, WI. A short ride day to Hayward, WI for Kevin and Alan. We caught up to them for lunch at the B-D Cafe where "friends meet to eat" (so we did), and afterwards we saw cute little round carrots at the farmers market in the parking lot. After choosing a camp site at the KOA in Hayward, WI, we went into town. Kevin wanted to check out the New Moon ski shop where I bought new carbon-lite x-country ski poles at 60% off (been looking for a good deal for over 5 yrs - yay). We arrived at the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum at 3:40pm. Online it said it closed at 4:00pm. Online it failed to mention that there is "no admittance to the museum after 3:30pm". Bummer! So we took pictures from behind the security fence. Since we couldn't get into the museum it was too early for dinner so we had afternoon adult beverages at the Moccasin Bar, which has some freaky fun dioramas. The bartender recommended the fish fry (the Friday night fish fry seems to be a common Wisconsin thing) at the Trailways Inn and Supper Club (he said it was just two miles away). So off we went ... we finally got there eleven miles later ... we were ready to participate in the all you can eat Friday night fish fry! Happy full bellies! by Jo

Day 39 Cumberland, WI-Birchwood, WI

Day 39: Arrived in Birchwood, WI and as we drove down the main drag, the first thing we saw was Kevin and Alan's bikes parked outside of the Bluegill Bar (of course). We checked into our camp site on Birchwood lake in Doolittle Park. We all enjoyed some Wisconsin cheese curds, including Bob. Warning ... cheese curds are dangerous ... you can't eat just one! Alan BBQ'd tasty cheese burgers and Janut made a yummy black bean salad. As the sun went down we took cover in the van because it has Kevin's "man sewn" bug screen! by JO
